The Arkansas Legislature is about to meet in a special session at the Capitol to vote once again on giving public dollars to fund tax breaks.

But it’s the wealthiest Arkansans and corporations that would get the benefits. Most people with disabilities won’t see any benefit at all from the cuts. And for people with disabilities, tax cuts mean less money for the state-funded services they rely on every day.

We know what the real struggles in Arkansas are: 

• Arkansas ranks 43rd in the country for the well-being of our children  
• 1 in 5 children in Arkansas lives in poverty 
• Arkansas has the highest rate of women dying from pregnancy and birth complications in the country 
• Many families don’t have access to child care, resulting in parents leaving the workforce 
• 134,690 Arkansas children are facing hunger 
• Over 1,000 Arkansans with developmental disabilities are on a waiting list to get community-based services 
   

The list of critical needs goes on and on. But these problems could be lessened or even eliminated if the state government invests public dollars. in proven policy solutions.
